Speaking at an event, National Security Guard (NSG) chief RC Tayal, on August 23 revealed that a vintage explosive was found in north Delhi during the construction of the new building for Defence Ministry’s research wing.

The explosive was found at the Metcalfe House, the new building for Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), according to reports.

“Two months back an explosive was found at DRDO Bhawan, when no other agency was able to handle it, the NSG defused it,” said Tayal.

However, the Home Ministry said the explosives were Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) which was detected during excavation. “Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) was detected during excavation outside DRDO Bhawan. This took place in mid-July. NSG was called in but there is no link of terrorism to it at all.”

As described by the DRDO and IB, the explosives were three old packets of a gelatin-like substance, generally used for controlled explosions at construction sites.
