Update: BJP wins 22 seats and leads in over 80 in Assam



Following BJP’s lead in more than 80 constituencies, Bharatiya Janata Party CM candidate Sarabananda Sonowal said the priority of the new government will be to protect the interests of “greater Assamese society.”

The BJP and its alliance partners, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF),  have won 22 seats and are ahead in over 80. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Sonowal, said, “The party will do everything to fulfil the dreams of people of Assam.”

Incumbent Chief Minister and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi commending Sonowal on the victory, said, “The party accepts the people’s verdict and we will work as a constructive opposition.”
