The deceased engineer identified as Srinivas Kuchibhotla, 32, was killed in Olathe on February 22 night, while his colleague and Indian, Alok Madasani, was injured. Another person, who tried to intervene, was also injured in the incident.
The accused, a US Navy veteran, has been arrested on February 23. He was charged with first-degree murder and his bond has been set at $ 2 million.
The crime has sent shock waves among Indian-Americans and the Indian community across the US.
Garmin, a technology company, where Kuchobhotla and Madasani worked, in a statement stated, “We’re saddened that two Garmin associates were involved in last night’s (Wednesday night) incident, and we express our condolences to the family and friends of our co-workers involved. Garmin will have grievance counsellors on-site and available for its associates.”
Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted that she was shocked with the incident and said that all help would be given to the deceased’s family in bnringing his body to Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, officials of the Indian Consulate in Houston have been sent to Kansas to assist the families of the victims.
