In the first semi-final of the World Cup at Auckland South Africa after winning the toss scored 281/5. With rain interrupting the play in between the target was revised. And when the played started the target for the Kiwis was an imposing 298 .  The match has been reduced to 43 overs a side after rain forced the players from the field for nearly two hours and New Zealand´s victory target was adjusted to 298 under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

For South Africa, Faf du Plessis made 82, AB de Villiers was not out 65 while David Miller smashed an 18-ball 49. Earlier  rain forced players from the field with South Africa 216-3 after 38 overs.

The Kiwis and Proteas both seek their first World Cup semi-final victory, as both teams have appeared in nine semi-finals without reaching a World Cup final. But they both have a chance to put that unwanted record behind them at Auckland’s Eden Park. New Zealand go into the match with Martin Guptill in fine form after his stunning World Cup-record 237 not out against the West Indies in a comfortable quarter-final win in Wellington .The opener has scored 57, 105 and 237 not out in his last three innings.

“He´s been a huge player for us in this tournament and I´d suggest he´s probably not quite done yet,” said New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.
