Unable to control his emotions, Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh breaks down while speaking with the daughter of farmer Gajendra Singh, who had committed suicide during the AAP’s “kisan rally” against the controversial land bill. Ashutosh was seen crying on national television.
“I am your guilty, Megha. I could not prevent the death of your father,” Ashutosh said, adding, “I hope you are able to forgive me for your father’s death.”
“I didn’t enter politics for this kind of blame game. I want to request Rajnath Singh, Ajay Maken and Sambit Patra to stop politicising the death of a farmer,” journalist-turned politician Ashutosh said.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh, along with a delegation of the party leaders is currently meeting with family of the deceased farmer Gajendra Singh.
Gajendra Singh’s family has now alleged that the deceased farmer did not write the ‘suicide note’ which was recovered from the farmer’s body because the handwriting on the note did not match the handwriting of Gajendra Singh, according to a TV report.
Reacting to Ashutosh bursting into tears, Gajendra’s brother Devendra said if Ashutosh had taken two minutes out of the rally, Gajendra could have been saved. “I want to ask Ashutoshji now that he is expressing his sentiments: Wasn’t he present in the rally that day?” Devendra said, adding, “If he (Ashutosh) had taken out time of 2 minutes that day, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Earlier in the day, AAP chief and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal apologized for continuing his address even after the incident, and said that there was no need for blame game. But Gajendra’s father said that his apology confirms that he is guilty and blamed him for the death of Gajendra.
