Separatists of Jammu and Kashmir got the shock of their lives when Pakistan made a volte-face and did not invite them for a meeting with Pakistan foreign secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in Delhi.
Hurriyat Conference (moderate) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Pakistan delegation did not exactly come to discuss bilateral ties, but for the Heart of Asia conference.
However, spokesperson of Hurriyat Conference (hardline) Ayaz Akbar said, “It is for the first time in two decades that we were not invited to meet Pakistani officials in Delhi. But all said and done, as J&K is the central issue between India and Pakistan, it should be solved as per the desire of the people.”
“Kashmiris have to be involved in the process as well. We have been invited whenever there has been any Indo-Pak dialogue (bilateral ties),” said Mirwaiz. He, however, said that both countries should work to build a conducive atmosphere for a peaceful dialogue on J&K, which should also include us.
It may be mentioned last year, after India’s objection to Advisor on Foreign Affairs to Pakistan Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz’s proposed meeting with the separatists, Pakistan called off the NSA meeting in a huff.
