Two militants killed in joint operation in Sopore, Kashmir

In a joint battle launched by the J&K Police, 22 Rashtriya Rifles, and CRPF battalions 92, 177 and 179 at Mir Mohallah, Nathipora Bomai, Sopore at least two militants were killed on June 1.

The militants were killed a day after Sopore police station was attacked with a grenade. The grenade thrower was reportedly caught on a CCTV camera and thus his identity was established. The police then reached to a house in Nathipore village where the two militants were hiding.

 “In a quick operation the J&K Police identified the two terrorists who were instrumental in throwing of grenade on its men yesterday in Sopore in which 4 policemen were injured and eliminated them in joint operation,” a police spokesman said.

 “As the cordon was being laid, militants opened fire, which was retaliated triggering a gunfight. Two militants were killed in the encounter,” he added.

Based on information about the presence of terrorists in Nathipora village which is about 50 km from Srinagar, the security forces launched a joint predawn operation.

Munir Ahmad Khan, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir said, “We asked the terrorists to surrender, but they refused and opened fire. In the ensuing encounter two, Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed inside a house.”
