The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the Information Technology (IT) wing of railways, has broken new grounds with putting in place an SMS alert service for the convenience of passengers. Now apart from carrying your ticket in your mobile phones, you will also get information about whether the train you were booked on , has been cancelled, leaving space for you to make alternative arrangements.
The pilot project is already in place wherein the SMS’s will be sent to passengers boarding the trains at the originating stations. It will be further extended to en route stations, at a later stage. The information will reach the passengers if they mention their mobile numbers while reserving their tickets, either at the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, or through on-line booking.
As stated by the Ministry,“The cancellation information would be sent quite in advance to the passengers for their convenience so that it may help them plan alternative arrangement in time.” Passengers are required to mention their mobile numbers on the reservation slips in order to avail the service.
