Three traffic cops were arrested for physically assaulting a man who refused to pay a bribe at traffic police station in Sabzi Mandi.
The cops were identified as assistant sub-inspector Balwant and constables Raju Kumar and Bharat.
While the officer has been granted bail, the two constables were sent on 14-day judicial custody.
The complainant, a delivery van driver, said that the police demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 for entering into a no-entry zone in Pulbangash area on 16 April. When he called up his boss, he told him to pay only the penalty, which adds up to Rs 2,100.
A scuffle soon ensued and the complainant not only broke the police’s challan machine, but also recorded the proceedings in his mobile.
A case under Sections 323, 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days), 365 (abduction with intent secret or wrongful confinement) and 377/511 (attempt to commit unnatural sex) have been lodged, said an official.
The angry cops took the complainant to the Subzi Mandi police station and beat him him hours after taking down his clothes. He was found by his relatives in an half-naked state at the police station.
