Three jawans, one civilian killed as militants attack army convoy in Kashmir

In yet another attack on the Army jawans in Kashmir, terrorists killed atleast three army men and injured five others in Shopian district of the Valley.

According to the police, a civilian woman named as Jana Began also died as a stray bullet hit her during the firing between terrorists and the army.

The incident happened at around 2:30 am on February 23, when heavily-armed terrorists attacked the army convoy which was returning from an anti-terror operation at Matrigam in Shopian. Terrorists injured six army jawans, three of whom succumbed to their injuries.

“Three army soldiers succumbed to their injuries at the army hospital in Srinagar,” said a police spokesman.

Though the army launched a major operation but the attackers managed to flee.

The militants attacked the security forces party which was going for a search operation in Chittargam area of Shopian, said a police official.

The army personnel killed in the attack have been identified as Sreejit MJ, Vikas Kumar and Ghulam Muhammad Rather, while the injured include Lt Col Mukesh Jha, Major Amardeep Singh, Surendra Kumar, Sumer Singh and Ajay Pal.
