The trinity of Haider, Mary Kom and Queen triumphs

INDIA-ARTS-CINEMA-BOLLYWOODLooks like Shahid Kapoor will have to clear some shelves this year, for all the awards may be headed his way. The 2015 Life OK Screen Awards held in Mumbai gave the actor enough reasons to smile by presenting him with the Best Actor Award, Life OK Hero of the Year Award (Male) and the Best Jodi Award, alongside Tabu for his film Haider.

Priyanka Chopra bagged the Best Actor (Female) Award for the biopic Mary Kom, while Alia Bhatt managed to come up tops as the Hero of the Year Award (Female).

The stage, festooned with lights, had celebrities such as Varun Dhawan, Tiger Shroff and Jacqueline Fernandez adding to the already glamourous event. Varun Bahl’s Queen, the story of a feisty west Delhi girl in Paris, was awarded the Best Film, Best Director and Best Cinematography Awards.

Among other major winners were Huma Qureshi, for her performance in Dedh Ishqiya and Tahir Raj Bhasin for Mardaani as Best Actors in a Negative Role, Female and Male, respectively. Inamul had bagged the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Filmistaan and Tabu and Seema Pahwa for Haider and Ankhon Dekhi respectively. Tiger Shroff (Heropanti) and Patralekha (Citylights) made their way to the winners’ list by receiving the Best Debutant Awards.

While the ceremony did not shy away from acknowledging low-budget but meaningful movies like Filmistaan and Ankhon Dekhi, it was surprising that the highest grosser of the year – PK, at Rs 600 crore – was only considered fit for the Best Dialogues and the Best Costume Awards. Farah Khan’s Happy New Year bagged the Popular Choice Award (Actor Female/Male).
