Four days after the Indian “surgical strikes” against terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control, one BSF soldier was killed and one injured when terrorists on late October 2 night attacked a BSF and adjoining army camps at Janzbora in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to media reports, the defense sources did not say as to how many terrorists had attacked the BSF and other army camps, but two of them were killed by the security personnel.
The BSF jawan who was killed in the attack has been identified as Constable Nitin, while Constable Pulwinder was injured. Both belong to the BSF’s 40th Battalion.
It may be noted here that the 46 Rajasthan Rifles battalion is responsible not only for security of the local military garrison, but also counter-insurgency operations in Baramulla and other villages.
The attack however was stymied when the fidayeen could not get through the security of the 46 Rajasthan Rifles camp. Two BSF soldiers got injured when a lone terrorist gained entry into the army camp and fired aimlessly and threw grenades too. When the jawans were rushed to the hospital, one of them succumbed to his injuries. Additional forces were being rushed to the spot to flush out the remaining terrorists.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh along with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is reviewing the situation.
Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore tweeted, “For our bravehearts protecting us in Baramulla, keeping terrorists hemmed in, blocking all escape routes; May our strength be with you. JaiHind.”
Former chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted “Prayers for all in the area.”
