Sunanda Pushkar’s death was not natural: Police commissioner

Commissioner of Delhi police BS Bassi said on 15 January that it’s certain the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, was unnatural.

“As far as evidences go, her death was not natural. This I can say with certainty,” said Bassi.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police received the AIIMS medical board’s ‘advice’ on an FBI lab report on Pushkar’s viscera samples.

The samples were sent to the FBI lab in Washington DC last year to determine the kind of poison that killed her. This was after an AIIMS medical board identified that she died due to poisoning. The board did not mention any specific substance.

The FBI negated the theory of ‘polonium poisoning’ having caused her death. However, the Delhi police failed to draw any conclusion on the basis of their findings, the report was handed over to a medical board for examination before proceeding further in the case.
