The ‘Dilliwala superstar’ Shahrukh Khan, was recently in his hometown to collect his bachelor’s degree from Hansraj College of Delhi University. Khan completed his graduation 28 years ago in 1985-88. Proud of his association with Delhi, Khan is very keen to promote his upcoming film, FAN, in the city. However, the event turned ugly when a group of students staged a protest outside the college gate raising slogans against the superstar.
Initial reports claimed that the students were ABVP activists, however, ABVP has denied involvement in the protest. Placards saying ‘Go Back Shahrukh’ and ‘Shahrukh Khan Murdabad’ were shown as the group tried to stop the superstar from entering the college premises. Khan has been on the receiving end for his comments on intolerance he made in an interview last year.
Inside the venue, where a large crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of their heartthrob, a few miscreants tried to create havoc by throwing empty plastic bottles and shoes on the stage.
To the protesters’ dismay, however, King Khan left everyone spellbound as he made his appearance on the stage. He also thanked the Delhi police for supporting him throughout the mess.
The crowd went crazy when Khan delivered popular dialogues from his movies Dilwale, DDLJ, Baazigar and upcoming film Fan. Khan with director Maneesh Sharma, who is also a Hansraj alumnus, launched the song ‘Jabra Fan’ at the college with thousands of students around. The song is not part of the movie, and is popularised as the Fan anthem. In the movie, SRK plays Gaurav, a fan of superstar Aryan Khanna.
A similar kind of aggression was witnessed in Ahmedabad, when unknown people threw stones at King Khan’s car while he was shooting for his upcoming film Raees.
