The owners of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) intend to acquire the Trinidad & Tobago franchise, subject to all “board approvals, said the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL)
“This is in tune with our vision and we are happy to be part of Trinidad & Tobago. Fervour for franchise cricket in the Caribbean is plain after the success of the CPL and we hope to bring KKR’s best practices to the T&T,” said Shah Rukh Khan, owner of KKR.
The actor joins Hollywood stars Mark Wahlberg (Barbados Tridents) and Gerard Butler (Jamaica Tallawahs) as the latest CPL franchise-owner.
“We are lucky to have been recognised as a professional franchise in IPL. Our experience in building a successful franchise made us to spread out globally,” said Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR.
Khan also has a following in T&T, and their fans will flock to the Queen’s Park Oval to watch their side play in their home games from 14 July to 19.
CPL 2015 stars from June 20 to July 26. Compared ta global audience of 65 million, this year is set to be even higher.
“KKR is a huge franchise, so for a brand like theirs to choose to invest in the CPL proves that we are doing all the right things and heading in the right direction,” said Damien O’Donohoe, CEO, CPL.
