Stoking a controversy for criticising the ‘anti-Romeo’ drive in Uttar Pradesh and mentioning Lord Krishna in the same tweet, he was booked for hurting religious feelings. The complaint was filed by Zishan Haider, the Congress spokesperson in Uttar Pradesh against the Swaraj Abhiyan co-founder.
It may be noted Bhushan was criticising Yogi Adityanath’s anti-Romeo brigade which has been taking action against men harassing women on the roads and in some cases against unmarried couples too
Bhushan caused outrage when he called Lord Krishna on the Internet an eve teaser. His tweet was, “Romeo loved just one lady, while Lord Krishna was a legendary eve teaser. Would Adityanath have the guts to call his vigilantes AntiKrishna squads?”.
Bhushan apologised for his tweet, “We have grown up with legends of young Krishna teasing Gopis. The logic of Romeo squad would criminalise this. Didnt intend to hunt sentiments.”

In another tweet, he said, “My tweet on Romeo Brigade being distorted. My position is: By the logic of Romeo Brigade, even Lord Krishna would look like eve teaser.”
I realise that my tweet on Romeo squads&Krishna was inappropriately phrased&unintentionally hurt sentiments of many ppl. Apologize&delete it — Prashant Bhushan (@pbhushan1) April 4, 2017
Protesters also raised slogans outside Bhushan’s house and blackened Bhushan’s nameplate with ink. His effigy was burnt in Mathura by demonstrators. Sadhus there filed a complaint against Bhushan in Govardhan and have staged a protest in Vrindavan.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (warned of launching an agitation in Allahabad against Bhushan, while Vishwa Hindu Parishad workers and VHP workers burnt an effigy of Bhushan in Pratapgarh.
