Amid the protest rally of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) against the Land Bill, a youth among the protesters attempts suicide by hanging himself on a tree in Jantar Mantar. The man was in serious condition when admitted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in central Delhi. Later, doctor announced the man brought dead.
The man was unconscious and barely breathing when three party activists climbed the tree and brought him down after people saw him hanging at Jantar Mantar, AAP volunteers had said.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia confirmed that the man who attempted suicide is from Rajasthan. “We and the (Delhi) government are with the family of the farmer,” he said. The rally was attended by thousands of farmer which was held in Jantar Mantar at the heart of Delhi.
Speaking on the rally, AAP leader Ashutosh alleged Narendra Modi government for pursuing anti-poor policies. “Narendra Modi government has been pursuing anti-farmer and anti-poor policies because he has been obliged by the big industrialist, now it is time to pay them back,” he said.
Earlier, Aam Aadmi Chief Arvind Kejriwal, according to reports, had asked the Delhi Police to keep the media away from the protest site. Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi, on being asked about the report, said the report is confidential and he would not like to discuss on the matter.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi Police played politics. We kept asking DP to save the farmer.” He further added “Delhi Police is not under my control”. It also suggests gross failure on part of Delhi Police. Surprisingly, the security personals were supposed to guard the CM and also maintain law and order situation in such rallies failed to rescue a single man.
