Shiv Sena by saying that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) sarsangchalak Mohan Bhagwat should be the alliance’s candidate in the forthcoming Presidential election put the ruling BJP at the Centre in a spot of bother.
Extending its full support to Bhagwat, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that the BJP top leadership will have to discuss with Shiv Sena on this issue.
Shiv Sena knows fully well that despite its huge victory in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, it will have to approach it for its support in the presidential polls.
Speaking to the media, MP Sanjay Raut said the RSS chief’s name is being circulated. Bhagwat will be good choice to lead the Hindu-majority country.
“Bhagwat’s name is being discussed (for the presidential election). This will be a good choice for the Hindu majority country,” said Raut. The NDA’s presidential candidate should not only be a “nationalist” but also “have a good knowledge of the Indian Constitution”, he added.
By saying this Shiv Sena has pointed out that it will stay away from the dinner for NDA allies to be hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Recently Modi had invited Uddhav Thackeray to take part in the dinner so as to informally discuss the presidential nominee.
All said and done, “our leader will take the final decision when the time is ripe”, he added.
