Bharatiya Janata Party ally Shiv Sena has slammed the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over his allegations against finance minister Arun Jaitley of corruption during his tenure as president in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
In an editorial in Sena’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, it said, “Now, Kejriwal has levelled allegations against Jaitley, who has termed them baseless and has filed a defamation suit against him, while Kejriwal says that attempts are being made to scare his party in which Jaitley will not succeed.”
The mouthpiece added, “Filing a defamation suit is Jaitley’s right. Kejriwal can say what he wants to, sling mud on people, but the person who is being defamed by all this cannot even answer back. What kind of goondaism is this.”
Further hitting out at the Delhi Chief Minister, the editorial stated, “Arvind Kejriwal first levelled allegations against Nitin Gadkari while he was the BJP’s national president. All the allegations were proved to be incorrect when Gadkari filed a defamation suit against Kejriwal. At that time, there was a possibility of Gadkari getting another term as party president.”
“Gadkari was defamed and he lost the chance to get a second term due to the Income Tax raids against Gadkari. Had he got a second term as the BJP president, he would have been a strong contender for the Prime Minister’s post,” the editorial added. “At that time, the instigators of the episode were from the party itself.”
Earlier in the day, the Delhi’s ruling party’s supporters escalated protest against Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley demanding his resignation over the alleged irregularities. The protest march headed towards Jaitley’s official residence was barred and detained by police at Tughlaq Road, using water canons to disperse the huge mob.
