Consenting to campaign for SP-Congress alliance, Samajwadi Party (SP) mentor Mulayam Singh Yadav on February 6 announced Akhilesh Yadav will continue to be the state’s Chief Minister if his party wins the elections.
Earlier, Mulayam had said that after seeking votes for younger brother Shivpal he would go to campaign for the candidates chosen by Akhilesh. It may be noted here that Akhilesh had sidelined Shivpal.
Ever since he was shown the door, Mulayam has been making contradictory noises.
First, he said he asked his supporters to contest against Congress candidates. He had even warned them from campaigning for SP-Congress candidates. In Delhi, he said that as Akhilesh was his son, he had little option but to campaign for him.
Shivpal, after filing his nomination in Jaswantnagar had announced he would form a new party after March 11 and ever since saying that Akhilesh got everything on a platter, while he (Shivpal) had worked hard to reach where had only to be given a raw deal by Akhilesh.
While this was so, the BJP and the Bahujan Samaj Party have alleged that the family feud in the Yadav clan was an attempt to deflect people’s mind from the rampant lawlessness and corruption in the state.
