In a dramatic twist to the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, the CBI has arrested former STAR TV CEO Peter Mukerjea on the charges of destroying evidence and being evasive with the investigations. Peter Mukerjea is the husband of Indrani Mukerjea, who is an accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, and is currently in jail.
Earlier in the day, the CBI filed a chargesheet in the Sheena Bora murder case in a magistrate’s court in Mumbai, in which her mother and former media magnate Indrani Mukerjea, along with two others have been named as accused.
It may be recalled that the 24-year-old Sheena Bora was allegedly murdered by her mother, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna, and her former driver Shyam Rai, in April 2012, and her body was dumped in a forest in the neighbouring Raigad district.
The chargesheet, running into more than 1,000 pages, and containing statements of 150 witnesses, 200 documents, and seven statements recorded before a magistrate, was later submitted before magistrate RV Adone, at Esplanade court in South Mumbai. It names Indrani, Khanna and Rai as accused — who were all arrested in August this year — after Rai allegedly spilled the beans while he was being interrogated in a different case.
Indrani, Khanna and Rai are currently lodged in judicial custody ,which is due to expire soon.
Peter’s arrest came after the forensic report prepared by the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) confirms that the remains found in Raigad forest near Mumbai belongs to Sheena Bora. It also claimed that she was strangled to death. All the accused were booked on the charges of abduction, murder, destruction of evidence, cheating and forgery. The sleuths also charged Indrani with some provisions of the Information Technology Act for creating a fake social networking ID in her daughter’s name to prove that she is alive and studying abroad.
