In a national shame, the tricolour was hoisted upside down during a meeting Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal had with his Abu Dhabi counterpart.
Goyal on January 16 met his Abu Dhabi counterpart at a conference on the first India-specific session on international renewable energy.
Following the meeting, a photo posted on Twitter, by the Saudi Press Agency showed the Indian tricolour hoisted in the wrong manner.
A number of people on social media criticised Goyal for ignoring the inverted national flag.
Earlier, Indian tricolour doormats were listed for sale by online shopping portal, Amazon.com. But it soon took down the offending products after Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj threatened to cancel Indian visas to its employees.
This is not first time that the national flag has been placed upside down. During the ASEAN meet, Thetricolour was hoisted upside down when Prime Minister Narendra Modi v isited Japan and met Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2015.
