sexual-assault1An associate professor was sacked after a probe panel of the Indian Institute for Information Technology, Allahabad, found his response not satisfactory a year after a student accused him of sexual harassment.

The allegations were levelled by an M Tech student in May last year who also lodged an FIR at Dhoomanganj police station in Allahbad.

“The decision, taken by the IIIT, Allahabad’s Board of Management, has been communicated to Associate Professor CVS Shiva Prasad by Director Somnath Biswas vide letter dated May 28,” IIT, Allahabad’s spokesperson Pankaj Mishra said.

Prasad, who was the HoD for Bioinformatics, was out of station when the FIR was lodged, but he surrendered in July and was sent to jail.

Mishra, who is the PRO, said the decision to dismiss Prasad from service, was taken after the probe panel set up by the institute to probe the matter didn’t receive a satisfactory response to its notices sent to the associate professor.
