In a joint operation by the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, the CRPF and the Jammu Kashmir Police, at least 20 villages in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir have been cordoned off on May 4. The forces are conducting a massive search operation in this south Kashmir district but the operation is getting affected due to stone-pelting mobs.
The Valley has seen an increase in recent militant attacks which includes attacks on the police post and bank in the Valley, killings of security personnel, weapon snatching and bank robberies. A house to house search operation is underway to arrest the militants.
Reportedly, police have also announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone leading to the arrest of Umar Majeed.
Majeed, a militant operating in south Kashmir has allegedly masterminded the killing of seven people, including five policemen and two bank guards, in Kulgam on May 1.
