After girl’s father commits suicide, district administration announces job for his son

On Monday, 24 September, Hisar Police nabbed the second of the 12 men accused in the gang-rape of a minor girl belonging to the Dalit community. The horrific incident took another tragic turn when the girl’s father committed suicide after learning of his daughter’s rape.

The victim had confided that she had been raped, to her mother but her father was kept in the dark. When he eventually found the truth out, he was unable to bear the shock and killed himself by consuming poison on 18 September. As news of his suicide spread, members of the Dalit community gathered in protest at the SP’s office and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

One person was arrested on Saturday and based on the information given by him the second accused was nabbed on Monday. Hisar SP B Satheesh Balan told media persons that Situ, the first accused arrested, revealed the names of the other 11 men involved in the crime during questioning. The police will reveal the name of the second accused after the identification parade. Police are on the lookout for the remaining absconding culprits.

On 9 September, the minor girl was on her way to her uncle’s house in Patel Nagar, Hisar when a youth named Sonu offered her a lift and took her to a secluded place where he and his friends allegedly raped her. They threatened her that they’ll leak photographs if she told anyone about the incident. The victim, later, confided in her mother and once her father found out the second tragedy occurred.

Meanwhile, the Hisar district administration has announced a job for the son of the family. They have also been promised financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh.
