The Supreme Court on September 23 served a notice to Bihar health minister Tej Pratap Yadav, who is also the son of RJD chief Lalu Yadav, asking him to explain how an alleged shooter wanted in a scribe’s murder seen with him in a photograph.
Apart from him, it also served a notice to Siwan don Mohammad Shahabuddin recently released from prison, who is also seen in the photo.
A controversy of sorts had erupted when the photograph came into public view with the Bihar opposition sharpening its attack against the grand alliance.
The slain journalist Rajdeo Ranjan’s had wife moved the SC after the photograph surfaced, urging that the her husband’s trial be shifted to Delhi as she fears for her family’s life.
Agreeing with her plea, a bench of justice Dipak Misra and justice C Nagappan ordered the Bihar police to provide protection to the scribe’s family. The court also asked the CBI to file a status report in the case by October 17.
The alleged shooter, Mohammad Kaif Kaif surrendered before Siwan court in an extortion case. He was also seen in photographs and video footage with Shahabuddin.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is part Bihar’s ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP has brazenly linked Shahabuddin’s release from jail after 11 years with the RJD’s return to power.
