Controversial BJP legislator Sangeet Som, who made headlines for making statements in the wake of Dadri lynching incident, apparently bought land for a ‘meat processing unit’ in Aligarh, in 2009.The documents were accessed by Hindustan Times.
Som, one of the directors of Al Dua Food Processing Pvt Ltd, has said he had purchased land a few years ago, but added he didn’t know he was appointed as one of the directors. The other two directors of the company have been identified as Moinuddin Qureshi, and Yogesh Rawat.
It may be noted that Som is one of the accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, and had earlier said that those who slaughter cows in Uttar Pradesh should be dealt with strictly.
“I purchased the land and sold it to the company after a few months,” he said. He, however, added that buying the land didn’t mean that he had set up a meat factory. “Prove my role in the factory and I will quit politics,” he added.
“I am a Hindu hardliner and how can I be involved in activities that are against my religion,” said Som.
