After facing the heat of the escalating protests, Sahitya Akademi on Friday condemned the killing of Prof. MM Kalburgi and urged the eminent writers and poets, who have returned their awards, to take them back.
Earlier in the day, writers who have returned their Sahitya Akademi awards, along with several poets, artists, marched in a protest in New Delhi ahead of the cultural body’s emergency meeting.
Hours before the rally, writers from different parts of the country gathered at Shri Ram Center near Mandi House wearing black ribbons on their head. They marched towards Sahitya Akademi.
In the recent protests against the rising intolerance, several writers had returned their awards.
