The Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Raghuram Rajan, received an e-mail from the user email@example.com earlier this month, in which the sender wrote, according to the DNA publication, “I have been given money by somebody to eliminate you. If you will pay me more than I have been paid, then we can decide on it.”
The Mumbai police have confirmed the existence of the e-mail and have launched an investigation.Police commissioner Rakesh Maria told DNA:“We have received a complaint that a threat email was sent to the RBI governor. The email also contained the name of ISIS. We are not taking this lightly and all efforts are being made to trace the culprits.”
They have already contacted Google about the e-mail ID. It was discovered that the e-mail account was accessed in ten different countries, an indication that a proxy might have been used.
