Replying to the rumours going around in political circles about his name being proposed as NDA candidate for presidential elections in July, RSS sarsangchalak Mohan Bhagwat said that he won’t accept the post even if he is offered it.
It may be mentioned here that Pranab Mukherjee, who took over as the President on 25 July 2012, overcame NDA’s PA Sangma and won with 7.13 lakh votes. Sangma had polled 3.15 lakh votes.
“I work only in the Sangh. I won’t accept (the President’s post) even if I get the offer. Whatever is happening within the media is only a figment of its imagination. Nothing will happen,” said Bhagwat.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief clarified a few days after the Shiv Sena proposed his name for the Presidential elections as the NDA candidate.
With Mukherjee’s term coming to an end in a few months from now, Shiv Sena through its mouthpiece Saamna had apparently backed Bhagwat for the plum post.
