Beauty queen turned Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra-starrer ‘Mary Kom’ has bagged the best film award at the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior in Sweden. The biopic based on the life of Olympic medal-winning Indian boxer Mary Kom, was awarded the Bronze Horse award which is the highest honor of the festival.
Omung Kumar, director of the film, said, “Mary Kom was selected for the Stockholm International Film Festival Junior in Sweden, and we have won the best film award and been given the Bronze Horse award, the highest honour in this festival. The jury as made up of kids ranging from the age of nine to 17 years”
“This award is a very big thing for us because now it will bridge the gap between Sweden and India. We can now distribute our films over here. ‘Mary Kom’ will again be showcased in Sweden by the Indian Embassy at the Indian Film Festival next month,” he said.
Omung, calling the achievement a “big”, said the film will also be screened at the Indian Film Festival in Sweden next month.The biopic of boxer Mary Kom with the same name was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and released on September 5 last year. It won several awards and nominations at various award ceremonies across India. It had won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at the 62nd National Fil Awards.
