President’s plane develops technical snag, returns to New Delhi

President Pranab MukherjeePresident Pranab Mukherjee, while proceeding to Chennai to attend the funeral of J Jayalalithaa, the late chief minister of Tamil Nadu, survived a scare when the IAF plane he was travelling in developed a technical snag and returned to New Delhi on December 6.

The IAF aircraft 30 minutes into the journey, after taking off from Palam technical Area Delhi and on way to Chennai, developed a technical snag.

The aircraft had reached Agra by that time. The President will now board another IAF plane and resume the journey up to Chennai to pay his last respects to Puatchi Thalaivi (Revolutionary Leader).

It will take 40 minutes to one hour for the President’s plane to take-off.

It may be noted here that the President was reportedly insistent on going to Chennai for Jayalalithaa, a politician, he said, he was a rapport with for many years.

On December 5 night, he was virtually glowing when he said he was pained to hear about Jayalalithaa’s death. “Having a wonderful mastery of facts and theories, she was a fighter and fought till the last moment,” he added.
