IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal’s suspension has once again confirmed the existence of multiple power centres in UP. It’s a closely guarded secret who ordered the office of the Principal Secretary, Appointment and Personnel, opened after 27 July midnight to issue the suspension orders. One of CM Akhilesh Yadav’s secretaries apprised him of it the next day. The needle of suspicion was pointed at the CM’s uncle, SP’s high-profile general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav. But he too demanded its revocation. The grapevine has it that a high-profile secretary, who takes orders only from the CM’s father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and is located in the cm’s secretariat, ordered the suspension.
At a recent function in Delhi, CM Sheila Dikshit raised eyebrows with a blooper. While thanking the Central government for launching the Food Security programme from her state, Dikshit ended up thanking the NDA, the coalition led by her arch-enemy: the BJP. She immediately realised her blunder and corrected herself, but the comment made BJP supporters happy who took it as a good omen for the upcoming Assembly polls in which the BJP wishes to defeat the three-time CM.
Assam CM Tarun Gogoi has invited his Nagaland counterpart Neiphiu Rio to a meeting in New Delhi on 2 August to discuss their border disputes. According to a Gogoi confidant, the Centre wants the CM to be more proactive on the border disputes, especially since Naga peace talks process are on track. Gogoi is game too as he wants to field his son, Gaurav, and other henchmen in the 2014 General Election from the districts of Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat.
