Police nabs wanted criminal in shootout near Nehru Place Metro Station



On February 6, around 2.30 am, Delhi Police arrested a wanted criminal with a bounty Rs. 25000 on his head, in a shootout near Eros hotel in Nehru Place, New Delhi.

Two policemen were hit in the gunfight but escaped injuries as they were wearing bullet-proof jackets.

The incident happened when the police team, on a tip of, tried to stop the criminals.

According to latest media reports, the shootout occurred at Nehru Place metro station when Akbar and his aide criminals were stopped near the Eros Hotel and were chased till the metro station, where they shot at the police.

The police managed to arrest the notorious robber and snatcher, identified as Akbar but members of his gang escaped. To evade from the police, the criminals fired 13 rounds of bullets.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya, the police retaliated as the criminals initiated firing to avoid their arrest.

“After the shootout, Akbar alias Danish was arrested while his accomplice Asif managed to escape with other associates,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

“He is wanted in many cases of robbery, theft, snatching and attempt to murder,” he added.

Akbar carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on him for a shootout case that took place in Pul Prahaladpur in south Delhi in December 2016, Romal Baaniya informed.
