Reacting to demands by various political parties, including AAP and Congress, for proof that the “surgical strikes” indeed took place, the Indian Army released video footage of the action taken by the Special Forces across the LoC in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the final call whether or not to make the footage public.
It may be noted that Special Forces personnel crossed over LoC on September 28-29 night and destroyed seven terrorist launch pads. They also killed more than 40 terrorists. The Indian Army’s claim of crossing over into its territory was vehemently denied by Pakistan.
The Indian Army made the announcement that the video footage was released, while Modi was chairing a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on October 5. During the meeting, those taking part in the CCS were briefed about the present situation at the border.
At the same time, frustrated by calls for proof of “surgical strikes” by political parties, Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti said, people doubting the Indian Army should get a Pakistani citizenship.
Meanwhile, in a show of strength, India is building bunkers along the Indo-Pak border. The move comes even as both the countries have indulged in grandiose rhetoric. It is likely that India has built many such bunkers in the fortnight following Uri terror attack.
These bunkers provide cover to army jawans at vulnerable points. According to media reports, villagers in Uri sad that there must be 50 bunkers as against one or two before Uri attack.
