The farmer suicide incident during the Aam Aadmi Party rally at Jantar Mantar led to a political blame game wherein Arvind Kejriwal was accused of being insensitive as he carried on with his speech even after realising what had happened. But equally insensitive are the other political parties that saw this as an opportunity to turn it into a political issue instead of addressing the plight of the farmers.
The event which was telecast live to millions of people revealed the shocking truth about the sorry state of farmers in the country. What is even more shocking is the fact that thousands of people attended the rally, but not one attempted to save the life of the farmer from Rajasthan who climbed the tree with the intention to end his life.
“Gajendra’s death has saddened the nation. We are deeply shattered and disappointed. Condolences to his family,” tweeted Prime minister of India Narendra Modi after the sensational incident.
“At no point must the hardworking farmer think he is alone. We are all together in creating a better tomorrow for the farmers of India,” tweeted the PM.
