The AgustaWestland scam will be taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha by leading parties on Wednesday. As defence minister Manohar Parrikar is also likely to make a statement targeting Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a meeting of the top Cabinet Ministers ahead of the critical day.

This meeting presided by Modi, is expected to be attended by Parrikar, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu, and others. This will be followed with Parrikar’s statement at the Rajya Sabha approximately at 2 PM on Wednesday, which is expected to make new revelations about the case, targeting Rahul and Sonia Gandhi directly, as mentioned by various BJP sources.

In a statement issued to the media, BJP’s Nalin Kohli said, “The bribe givers are in jail and the central question is who took the bribes. Today Manohar Parrikar ji will give his statement. The people who took bribes should also be punished as the bribe givers are already in jail,” adding, “Those who influenced the decision-making and those who took the decisions that may also come out.”

However, Congress is not backing down upon their stance, as Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, had earlier accused the Centre of leading a politically motivated campaign to defame Congress. They held their own strategy meeting for the Rajya Sabha hearing, at Sonia Gandhi’s residence on Tuesday night. Sonia Gandhi has been quoted asking her MPs to be present to “articulate their views and present the party’s case,” on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, CBI continues interrogation of former Air Chief SP Tyagi and former IAF Deputy Chief JS Gujral in their connections to the alleged irregularities in the Rs 3600 crore VVIP chopper deal.
