Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 7 June greeted the Muslims on the beginning of Ramadan and hoped for spirit of harmony in the society.
“As the holy month of Ramadan begins, I greet the Muslim community and give them my best wishes,” he said. “May Ramadan deepen the bond of brotherhood in the society.”
Presently, the Prime Minister is in the United States, the fourth leg of his five-nation tour.
It may be noted the Ruyat-e-Hilal (moon sighting) panel announced that the moon has been seen on 6 June evening. Worshipers thronged mosques to offer special night prayer called Traweeh and the same will continue throughout the month.
According to the Islamic calendar, Ramadan falls in its ninth month. The holy month commenced across the Gulf on 6 June. During the holy month, the worshippers observe fast and join prayers held at mosques during the period. This annual observance is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam.
