Business in both houses of Parliament was washed out for the third consecutive day on 23 July with BJP and Congress fighting it out over the Lalit Modi row and Vyapanm scam.

Earlier, as soon as the House assembled and took up the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, members of Congress, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Left parties rushed to the Well of the House raising slogans and displaying placards thereby forcing Mahajan to adjourn the House till noon.

Sporting a black ribbon on his right arm, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was seen in the second row of opposition benches.

The speaker hit out at the Congress members for disturbing the proceedings and alleged that the protest was not being shown on camera.

She, however, hoped the deadlock will end. “Everyone is mature and smart, I am sure a consensus will be reached.”

Meanwhile, in a counter attack, BJP chief whip Arjun Ram Meghwal moved a notice of breach of privilege against Robert Vadra, Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law. Vadra has demeaned parliamentarians in his Facebook post and also wrote against Parliament’s functioning. “He cannot do that…nobody can do that,” Meghwal shouted.

What has made things worse for the Congress is that a privilege notice against Vadra could send him behind bars if found guilty by a parliamentary panel.

In his Facebook post, Vadra has posted, “Parliament begins and so do their petty diversionary political tactics… People of India are not fool. Regret to see India led by such so-called leaders !!.”

Earlier in the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Anand Sharma slammed the government and dismissed the government’s offer for discussion in Parliament. “Looking at it’s attitude, the opposition doesn’t think that discussion will lead to anything,”says Sharma.

“When Sushmaji accepted that she spoke to Britain’s High Commissioner, where is the place for discussion? There’s place only for action,”he added.

“Why has the Prime Minster sealed his lips on the issue. He should respond to our demand, fix accountability and not just show his face,” says Sharma.

“We refuse to accept that Prime Minster Narendra Modi wasn’t aware of what was happening when he knew Lalit Modi well himself. I am sure Arun Jaitley understands the meaning of the words accountability and action,” he added.
