NIA busts terror module in Kerala; 6 arrested


NIAA terror module allegedly inspired by the Islamic State, has been busted in Kerala by National Investigation Agency (NIA) on October 2, which also took six persons into custody.

Raids were conducted by the NIA in Chennai, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Kannur, Kozikhode and Mallapuram in Kerala.

Those arrested have been identified as Manseed  alias Omar Al Hindi alias Muthuka, 30, Abu Basheer alias Rashid alias Buccha alias Dalpati alias Ameer, 29, Swalih Mohammed T alias Yousuf alias Abu Hasna, 26, Safwan P, 30, Jasim NK, 25,  and Ramshad Nageelan Kandiyil alias Aaamu, 24.

NIA received a tip off that some Kerala and Tamil Nadu youths had entered into a conspiracy targeting significant places and persons across south India.

Earlier, the NIA after conducting a thorough probe, lodged a case at its Kochi branch on October 1 under several sections of IPC sections and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.  The NIA also alerted the Kerala Police, Delhi Police and Telangana Police and with their help kept a close watch on the movements of  those involved in the conspiracy.

As per media reports, the NIA while conducting searches in Kozikhode and Kannur districts in Kerala on October 2 arrested six persons. Five were detained at Kanakamala hilltop in Kannur district, while one more was arrested from Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode district.

Meanwhile, the accused persons will be produced before an NIA special court in Ernakulam to seek their police custody.
