NSG race: India, Pakistan or Namibia?
NSG race: India, Pakistan or Namibia?

After India and Pakistan, Namibia, world’s fourth largest producer of uranium, has also submitted its application to join the coveted Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

While India and Pakistan are making huge efforts to reach out the NSG member states and win their support, little is known about Namibia’s application and diplomatic efforts.

The 48-member NSG works by consensus and will decide on the applications on 23-24 June in Seoul.

Namibia is a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons – commonly known as the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) – since 1992 whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament.
