After the suspension of 25 congress members for causing ‘willful’ disruption in Lok Sabha yesterday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, along with other leaders, stormed a protest against speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s decision.

Sonia Gandhi, attacking the NDA government, said, the act is anti-democratic. “It is the duty of the government to ensure functioning of the Parliament, the way our lawmakers were suspended was anti-democratic”, said Sonia, speaking to reporters outside the parliament, adding, “It’s the murder of democracy.”

Former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh who joined the agitation also said the move was against the tradition of Parliament. “Suspension of 25 Congress MPs is not a way of resolving an issue. It is the responsibility of the government to respond to the concerns being raised by us for so long now.”

“We are fully justified in demanding the resignation of the three ministers – Sushma Swaraj, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Pankaja Munde,” he added.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, on the various controversies involving BJP leaders, said, the Congress party is not asking for resignations of Vasundhara Raje, Sushma Swaraj, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, but the people of India are..”

Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan had suspened 25 Congress leaders for five days,  for “wilfully obstructing” the House on Monday. It is the first time that so many MPs have faced a disciplinary action together.
