With PDP president Mehbooba Mufti all set to become the chief minister of J&K, Shiv Sena on 28 March said that she should chant slogan ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ before taking charge of the state as the CM.
Asserting that slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ are a proof of nationalism and patriotism, said the right-wing party.
The ruling alliance was asked that ‘Mehbooba’s links with separatists in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has always been questionable’, as per an editorial published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamna’.
The article further goes on to say that the PDP chief was sympathetic towards anti-national elements.
Referring to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that efforts be made to raise slogans such as ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ across the globe and the ‘mission must start from J&K’, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, “Raising pro-national slogans are a proof of nationalism. They come from within. It is therefore a must then Mufti raise the slogan before taking oath.”
“Mufti has always been sympathetic towards Afzal Guru. They aren’t ready to call him a terrorist. The million dollar question now is whether she will raise the ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogan,” said Raut.
It may be recalled that the PDP-BJP alliance will continue following a two-month long stalemate between the two
parties over some issues, including Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
