In association with the WEvolve campaign and World Bank as partner, Manish Malhotra presented the show Blue Runway on the first day of Lakme Fashion Week, 2015. The show saw the launch of WEvolve, a global campaign that uses the influence of creative industries such as fashion, to empower the youth to challenge norms that lead to gender violence.
The show had models walking the ramp in the old world ambiance set by the unique pieces from the Great Eastern Home décor store. The show derived its name from the color palette it featured – different hues of blue from powder to midnight. The women’s line presented summer gowns, halter crop tops, off-shoulder tops, jacket-saris and skirts, whereas the men’s line included bandh-gala jackets and long shirts. The stunning outfits spotlighted intricate threadwork, embroidery and mirror work and were emphasized by the gorgeous jewelry by Anmol Jewellers.
American fashion connoisseur Rosario Dawson of the Sin City fame joined Manish Malhotra to present the ‘Blue Runway’ and the climax of the show saw the models carrying social messages on placards that read – gender, equality, society, empower and justice, all of which echoing change and positivity. Essentially, Manish Malhotra brought together, a youthful and glamorous summer collection to celebrate the younger generation who is the key agent of change.
Blue Runaway was attended by celebrities including Deepika Padukone, Jacqueline Fernandes, Huma Qureshi, Neha Dhupia, Richa Chadda, Shabana Azmi, Sridevi, Kajol and Sophie Chowdry.
