Trinamool Congress boycotted the session’s first two days as a protest against the Centre’s demonetisation drive and the illegal arrest of two party MPs by the CBI.
She also pointed out that the government did not disclose any figures regarding the note ban.
It is for the first time that a combined budget (Railways and General) has been presented. “So we though something was going to happen, but nothing came by. We waited.”
In a series of tweets, Banerjee, however, said, “Tax payers will have to bear with restrictions on withdrawals. Remove all restrictions immediately. And where are the figures for demonetisation. The controversial Budget is clueless, useless, baseless, missionless and actionless.” The West Bengal CM said that the speech was full of “jugglery of numbers” and “hollow words”.
Meanwhile, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi called the Union Budget 2017 a damp squib. It proposed nothing for the poor and youth. “We expected fireworks,” he said, adding that Jaitley gave a good speech but it had no basis.
He said the demonetisation move had affected the poor, but Jaitley did not give anything to them to alleviate their suffering.
The Congress would support any move to clean up political funding, he said. Earlier, announcing in the Budget, Jaitley had limited political donations from one source to Rs 2,000.
