The Union Cabinet of India passed the Model shops and establishment bill that allows malls, restaurant, banks, multiplexes and shops in the country to remain open 24X7. This move will act as a catalyst in the formation of an environment which allows uniform working conditions and increased employment opportunities with ease of business said Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley.

Model law (Regulation of Employment and Condition of Services) Bill, 2016 will help in the gradual eradication of ‘discrimination’ faced by women over working hours and wages. The state could adopt this law and fix as well as regulate the working hours all over the state under which women can also work in the night. However, the law will have to ensure proper pick and drop facilities for women working nights.

The bill will be sent to states now so that they can adopt the current bill or modify the provision according to the ease of the people in the state.

Krish Iyer, president, and CEO of Walmart India said that this decision will definitely help the retailers keep their establishments run round the clock and will create many skilled job opportunities. Moreover, it will also give the customers an ease to shop anytime.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has their say on this bill as they want the government to first launch a pilot project in a state and see the results.  For now, the Center has declared their consent and passed the Model law but the final result will come on the status of that how many states adopt this bill.
