Union power minister Piyush Goyal on 5 May was advised by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to give short instead of long-winding answers to questions raised by MPs.
It may be noted Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had objected to Goyal’s long speeches.
“You are young and energetic. You are doing a good job. But your replies should be short,” Mahajan told Piyush Goyal soon after he finished giving a reply, albeit long, on water shortage in thermal power plants.
The Speaker’s remarks came after Yadav objected to the minister’s long speeches, saying answers to questions during Question Hour should be short.
Yadav, a veteran Parliamentarian, said earlier the House used to take up 15 to 16 questions during the hour-long allotted time, but due to long replies by the ministers, only a few questions could be discussed now.
