The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala has favoured the entry of women of all ages to Lord Ayyappa shrine at Sabarimala. Traditionally, the entry of women of menstruating age is restricted here.
The party is of the view that women must be allowed to enter the Ayyappa shrine, said CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. “We feel that women must be allowed in all temples,” he added.
“If there is any difficulty in allowing women to Sabrimala, then Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages the Ayyappa temple, must bring the matter to the Supreme Court (SC) notice,” he added.
The state government will file an affidavit in the SC in the issue of women’s entry into Sabarimala, he said. The SC on July 12 had stated that it would refer the issue of banning women between 10 years and 50 years to a five-judge constitutional bench.
On reports of that some Keralities are suspected to have joined the ranks of Islamic State, Balakrishnan said that efforts to blame the Muslim community on the issue is against justice.
