JNU row: Lawyers run amok once again at Patiala House Court

The Supreme Court on 17 February ruled that when JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar is brought to Patiala House Court, only five scribes will be allowed into the court room, while Kumar’s supporters have to send two representatives.

While this was so, the lawyers, some of them were also raising slogans against the journalists, ran amok inspite of the SC diktat at the Patiala House Court. It was learnt that same groups of lawyers turned violent again.

Things started to turn bitter after the Delhi Police, though it has not made any formal arrest, has summoned three lawyers who have been identified as the attackers for the attack on journalists on 16 February. After taking no action for a long time, the police have are bringing in a semblance of law and order.

The government expecting such unruly scenes has stationed nNearly three companies of CRPF outside its premises. There is also heavy barricading and police presence outside the Patiala House Court.

Lawyer Rajeev Tadac raised slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’ in the court premises while the SC was hearing a plea on the Patiala House Court violence in which lawyers thrashed journalists and JNU students. The court will also hear the attacks on journalists and JNU students and by BJP MLA OP Sharma and a group of lawyers.
