The Jammu and Kashmir police on September 9 foiled a press conference called by All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairperson SAS Geelani at his residence.
The police sealed the road leading to Geelani’s residence and didn’t allow the media from reaching the venue and put Geelani under house arrest.
Accusing the Centre and the state government of unleashing a reign of terror on the people, he thanked Pakistan and China for their unstinted support to the Kashmiris struggle.
In a letter written to China on July 17, Geelani sought its support for resolving the Kashmir issue. He also thanked Norway, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Iran and the Organisation of Islamic countries for their concern. Also Turkey needs to be thanked for supporting the struggle for freedom from Indian occupatio, the statement issued by Geelani shortly after his press conference was not allowed, says.
Complimenting Pakistan, he said, “Pakistan and not India stood by us. Pakistan and its people shared our pain and supported us. We are happy when the J&K has once again risen for their freedom, Pakistan and its people have taken an ethical stand to support our struggle morally, politically and diplomatically,” he said.
